Stirling Shopping and Districts

(Stirling, Scotland, UK)

Picture of shopping in Stirling city centreThere are a surprising number of shopping options in Stirling, ranging from traditional markets to flashy indoor shopping malls. The city centre is the best place to start your spending excursions, with lots of little shops selling everything from souvenirs and handicrafts to more practical goods like clothing and handbags.

Many of the stores in Stirling have been around for decades, offering quality along with selection. For woollen goods, check out RR Henderson on Friar Street. This Highland outfitter sells amazing sweaters, scarves and made-to-order tartans and kilts.

When to Shop and Where

The Stirling Arcade is another great spot. This Victorian-era complex contains some 25 different speciality stores featuring fashion, food and art. Located on Port Street, the Farmers' Market is also fun to browse. Hand-crafted gifts and some of the tastiest food in town are on offer.

Stirling's traditional High Street area is made up of Port Street and Murray Place, where you will find bakeries, department stores, banks and just about everything else.

The Thistles Centre on Port Street is at the heart of this shopping strip, with just under 100 indoor shops to check out. Barnton Street is known for its mixed range of shops that focus on beauty, while Baker Street and Friars Street are good spots to hunt for antiques, gifts, music and books.

King Street is a pedestrian-friendly area that serves as the entrance to the Old Town, which is another area worth some serious exploration. This is the historic core of Stirling, so you will find plenty of shops selling souvenirs, crafts and other knick-knacks, as well as some of the nicest coffee shops and cafés in the city.

Of course, many would argue the best shopping is actually outside of Stirling at places like Upper Craigs and Mill Trail Country. The latter is a cooperative of three towns to the east of Stirling, boasting a number of factory outlets.
