Daviot Lodge - accommodations
Our daughter, son-in-law and 2 1/2yr old granddaughter (well behaved-not a cryer) had secured reservations weeks ago, at Daviot Lodge, Inverness IV2 5ER for May 1, 2012. Daviot claims they have a "5 star quality grading by Visit Scotland reinforcing their high levels of customer care and cuisine".

They arrived around 6pm, tired, wanted to go to bed and have a quiet night, get up early, see the calves and sheep surrounding the lodge and visit a dairy farm nearby.

The owner of the lodge literally kicked them out of the lodge - screaming at them to leave saying they did NOT allow children!

Nothing on the booking site said no children, and on Daviot Lodge website home page and 'rooms' nothing says 'no children'. There is one small line on 'tariff' page.

Further, on their booking inquiry, they had put down 1 child, 2 yrs old.

Mrs. Hutcheson, screamed at them to get out.

They had asked Mrs. Hutcheson if she would recommend another place to stay - Mrs. Hutcheson would not even recommend ANY place and told them "you should be apologizing to ME for taking up MY time".

As they were getting back into their car - she yelled out she was charging them for the reservation anyway.

As it did turn out, hours later - they found accommodations at White Lodge in Inverness. They also did not allow children, but the owner, I believe, Mrs. Margaret McRae took one look at our granddaughter and said they would never turn away a wee one on a night like this. They were treated very well there.

Re. Can really see why it won so many awards
Great isn't it? You might also like the Highland Aviation Museum if you're looking for something educational. There are mostly outdoor things and the like in Inverness.

Can really see why it won so many awards
We headed to Scotland mostly for the scenery and weren't disappointed with the Aigas Field Centre at all. It was relatively easy to get to at under 15 miles from our hotel in Inverness town centre and was a lovely wildlife area once we arrived. I understand why it won so many awards and achieved international acclaim. Activities for both young and old. I would like to find more educational attractions in Inverness.

Re. Falls at Foyer my highlight
We have more than just one set of falls in Inverness that you also might like. Try Plodda Falls, which are a bit further away and probably not as crowded.

Falls at Foyer my highlight
Coming from near a city south of the border in England, it was a breath of fresh air to enjoy the waterfalls at The Falls of Foyer. Not even a quarter of a mile from the town centre but felt like a world away. Wish I could retreat to this sort of thing at home!

Compulsory for the history buffs
For me the Culloden Battlefield was the main reason I was in Inverness. It lived up to its billing and was a great point of interest less than five miles from the town centre. It has been kept in good condition since 1746 and you can see that there is great interest in it as a tourist centre.
