Inverness Hotels and Accommodation

(Inverness, Scotland, UK)

Photo of riverside accommodationInverness is a very friendly city with a long history of hotels and accommodating visitors. There's a full range of lodging options to suit every taste and budget, all replete with that warm Scottish Highlands hospitality. On the cheap end of the accommodation scale you will find a number of backpacker guest houses and youth hostels scattered around the central core. While they certainly provide a good deal, you will have to sacrifice privacy and comfort.

A better accommodation option is to check out one of the many small hotels or inns in Inverness. These operators are usually family run and offer an intimate experience that you just can't get from larger chain hotels. The Park Guest House and the Avalon Guest House are just two of the more established and acclaimed bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) in the city centre. Wherever you choose to stay, do bear in mind that July and August are always busy months.

Where to Stay

A particularly good selection of B&Bs line Ardconnel Street and Old Edinburgh Road, on the easterly side of the Ness River, while on the western banks, similar lodging is clustered on Fairfield Road and Kenneth Street.

If you prefer more cosmopolitan accommodation with all the amenities and conveniences that go with it, Inverness has a good choice of four-star independent hotels and well-known chains.

The most elegant of this group is arguably the Culloden House. This Georgian mansion is close by in the picturesque countryside and offers the finest service and accommodation. Bonnie Prince Charlie slept here the night before the Battle of Culloden. Wouldn't you love to follow in his footsteps?

The owners of inns like Dunhallin House on Culduthel Road take great pride in their establishments and will make your stay very comfortable and memorable. The Royal Highland Hotel on Academy Street is another excellent example of a historic landmark turned luxury hotel.

Of course, there are some amazing properties just outside Inverness, such as the neighbouring Dunain Park Hotel. These old country estates usually have lovely park-like gardens and unbeatable atmosphere.
