Also worth noting and situated around 32 km / 20 miles to the east of the city centre, in the nearby town of Stjordal, Trondheim Airport, Vaernes has long been an important regional air facility for this part of Norway and the county of Nordland.

Various boat trips are available around the coastline of the city, with the Hurtigruten steamer regularly stopping in Trondheim, together with Kystekspressen boat transport. These boats are operated by Fosen Trafikklag and travel between Kristiansund and Trondheim, departing from the city's Pirterminalen quay.

Car Rental

Hiring a car in Trondheim makes a lot of sense, since the E6 highway passes through the very heart of the city and connects many nearby Norwegian towns and cities. However, those wishing to use to motorway will be required to pay a small toll. This charge also covers the city's toll, which is payable as drivers enter the city, from Monday to Friday, between 06:00 and 18:00. Metered street parking is available within certain zones, although the large parking garages provide better rates and are usually more convenient, particularly those near to the railway station and in the Fjordgata area.
