Waterfront pictureChangeable is a good description of the climate in Trondheim. At times, it almost feels like you have experienced all four seasons in just on day.

The summer weather in Trondheim is generally warm and appealing, although at times it can be a little wet and cold, so always bring a suitable jacket, in case the clouds choose to gather overhead. Trondheim's climate can really be best described as maritime, remaining fairly sheltered from the windy coastline.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Any time from May through to September is a great time to visit Trondheim and this is when you are most likely to enjoy sunny weather. The summer climate usually features highs of just above 20°C / 68°F, although when the sun is at its very strongest, temperatures have been known to climb right up to 30°C / 86°F. At the time of the summer solstice, the days are almost endless and no sooner has the sun set at midnight, then it is rising again, just three hours later.

Between November and March, the climate becomes quite chilly, with overnight frosts of around -5°C / 23°F soon becoming commonplace, along with snow storms. However, during the snowy winter months, both locals and tourists from Trondheim take the opportunity to go skiing at nearby Vassfjellet. Expect an early night though, as on the shortest day in December, the winter sun sets as early as 14:30 and rises at around 10:00.
