Cork Hotels and Accommodation

(Cork, County Cork, Republic of Ireland)

Photograph of the accommodation and buildings lining the River LeeCounty Cork is no stranger to visitors, and its hospitality is legendary. From luxurious five-star hotels set in the former great mansions of the landed gentry to remote local country pubs, this emerald-green land has everything to suit all budgets and holiday lifestyles.

Cork hotels range from upmarket glitzy steel and glass constructions, totally traditional 200-year old luxury choices and country house gentility, through to business-friendly accommodation chains and B&Bs, some of which are located within classic Georgian town homes. The widest selection is based around the city centre, where it is convenient for events, sights, shopping and dining. The university district holds several five-stars and other comfortable accommodation options, as well as guest houses and hostels, while the usual lodging chains are represented around Cork Airport, just 6 km / 4 miles away.

Where to Stay

For upscale luxury, Hayfield Manor on Perrot Avenue is Cork's grandest place to stay, and another top-end venue, the Kingsley House, is located on the edge of town.

On the river bank at Lapps Quay is the post-modern futuristic glass frontage of the Clarion Hotel, while the traditional option is the city-centre Imperial Hotel, built in 1913. Further out but easily accessible by taxi is the Maryborough Hotel and Spa.

Patrick's Street photoAt the riverside Anderson Quay are the three-star Jury's Inn and the Victoria Hotel, the latter of which was once the temporary home to both James Joyce and the rebel Charles Stuart Parnell, and even a dinner venue for Sir Winston Churchill. In the university district, the ultra-chic Crawford Guest House is more a boutique hotel than a B&B.

For those who love city life as long as they don't live in it, 8 km / 5 miles from Cork lies Blarney and its famous castle, as well as a good selection of accommodation.

Crosshaven and Carrigaline are quiet satellite towns nearby Cork, set in the countryside but convenient for town and the airport, and Fota Island in Cork's vast harbour hosts the Fota Island Hotel and Resort, a luxury venue set alongside a nature reserve.
