Belfast Golf Courses

It would be fair to say that Belfast is the golfing capital of Northern Ireland, with a huge choice of courses within driving distance of the city centre. Highly recommended is the Shandon Park Golf Club, which is a friendly local parkland club offering an 18-hole course with excellent views across Stormont, and is just 3 miles / 5 km from the city.

Particularly central is the Ormeau Golf Club, on the southern side of central Belfast, which stands alongside the River Lagan, next to Ormeau Park and the Pleasurewood Hills Park. Close by, the Belvoir Park Club is situated a little further to the south, near the Lagan Meadows and just across from the Knockbreda Cemetery. Other notable courses include the Royal Belfast, the Balmoral, the Malone, Mount Ober and Shandon Park, amongst many others.

Balmoral Golf Club

Located within easy reach of central Belfast, the Balmoral Golf Club has much to offer golfers visiting Northern Ireland. The club itself boasts a long and impressive heritage, being founded by a group of keen locals way back in 1914. Today, undulating fairways are lined by literally thousands of trees, providing a mature background for the holes.

Belvoir Park Golf Club

The Belvoir Park Golf Club, in the Newtonbreda region, is a well-designed course with mature planting and scenic views. Established in the 1920s and covering some 135 acres / 55 hectares, the Belvoir is just a couple of miles away from the city centre.

Cliftonville Golf Club

Established in 1911, the Cliftonville Golf Club features a pleasant nine-hole course. Even though the course is fairly short, there are still plenty of challenges to enjoy.

Knock Golf Club

Lying on the south-westerly outskirts of Belfast, the Lisburn Golf Club is just a short trip from the city centre, via the M1 motorway. The club boasts quite a pedigree and is more than 100 years old, being founded in 1905.

The Mount Ober Golf Club is to be found on the southerly outskirts of Belfast, on Ballymaconaghy Road, where it comes with a driving range, a large clubhouse and a games room with full-size snooker tables. Look out for the views of the city visible on both the third tee and the 12th green.

The Ormeau Golf Club enjoys an especially central location, being within walking distance of the city centre and dating back to 1893. After you have played your round, you may like to enjoy a bite to eat in the clubhouse, at the Niblick restaurant. Whilst you dine you can admire the views of Cavehill and the Black Mountain, as well as the famous cranes of Harland and Wolff.
