Reykjavik Parks and Gardens

(Reykjavik, Capital Area, Iceland)

Picture of the gardens outside of the Church of HallgrimurThe summer months of Reykjavik may not be scorching hot, but they are warm enough to ensure that the city's parks and gardens are green, pleasant spaces, often featuring plenty of flowers, fountains and statues. Despite the harsh winter weather, Reykjavik is surprisingly home to a thriving botanical garden (Grasagarourinn i Laugardal), which contains literally thousands of wonderful specimens from all around the planet, including many exotic specimens.

Close to the very heart of Reykjavik, the aptly named Family Park (Fjölskyldugarourinn) is regularly frequented by Icelandic locals and offers an escape from modern life. Nearby, both the Ellioavatn Gardens and Heiomörk Park provide similar tranquil spots, where picnicking, jogging and native wildlife can all be enjoyed.
