Cannes Hotels and Accommodation

(Cannes, Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France)

Photo of lodging next to La CroisetteCannes is visited by large numbers of business travellers, as well as tourists and Festival visitors. Accommodation is therefore available in abundance, ranging from budget hotels and hostels through to 'palais-hotels' frequented by the rich and famous. There is also plenty of alternative accommodation on offer around Cannes, including studios, apartments and villas.

Accommodation availability and prices can vary a great deal throughout the year. The busiest period in Cannes is undoubtedly in mid-May when the world's spotlight shines on the Cannes Film Festival. During the festival, prices for hotel rooms can rise quite steeply, advance reservations are absolutely essential, and it's worth noting that many hotel owners may impose a minimum stay.

Where to Stay

If you fancy a taste of life in the belle époque, then the opulence of Cannes' grandest hotels won't disappoint. The most exclusive hotels in Cannes can be found along Boulevard de la Croisette. These include the palatial Majestic, the Carlton and the Hôtel Martinez. Luxury rooms in more modern surroundings can also be found, with plenty of contemporary architecture and state-of-the-art facilities to keep you entertained in style.

More down-to-earth accommodation can mostly be found in the centre of Cannes, between La Croisette and Cannes railway station. Most hotels in this part of Cannes offer comfortable, friendly accommodation with reasonable facilities. Some mid-range hotels also provide access to a private beach at a reduced cost or a balcony with a sea view. This is an ideal place to stay if you're planning to attend events at the nearby Palais des Festivals, or just want to stay close to restaurants, shops, cafés, theatres and cinemas and, of course, the beach.

Despite Cannes' reputation as an exclusive resort, it is possible to find some good budget hotels and hostels. These offer fairly basic facilities but are still in a good location for all the major tourist attractions.

For visitors who prefer the comforts of home rather than traditional hotel-style accommodation, then furnished apartments or villas are alternative options. As well as being serviced, many apartment buildings in Cannes have additional facilities, such as a garage, gym and launderette. A stay in an apartment also allows visitors to experience the 'real' Cannes, just like the locals.
