Helsinki Museums

There are more museums in the Helsinki area than most people ever have the time to visit and many interesting subjects are covered. These range from acclaimed Finnish Arabia porcelain at the Arabian Museo, to around 100 different vehicles at the nearby Espoo Transport Museum (Espoon Automuseo), close to Helsinki, where highlights include an early T-Model Form and a famous world-championship winning Ferrari.

Founded in the late 1950s, the Glimsin Talomuseo features a series of historical buildings, complete with period furniture and theatrical events in the summer season. Other must-see museums include the Herttoniemen Kartanon Museo at the Finnish Herttoniemi manor house, and the Museum of Natural History (Luonnontieteellinen Keskusmuseo), where visitors will enjoy themed exhibitions relating to birds, fish, mammals and fossils.


For in-depth information about the city's past, pay a visit to the Helsinki City Museum (Helsingin Kaupunginmuseo), where many interesting exhibits await. The National Museum of Finland (Suomen Kansallismuseo) in the Töölö district of Helsinki is also worth finding and is housed in a building resembling a stylish castle in appearance, with exhibitions of archaeology, cultural treasures and local history.
