York Hotels and Accommodation

(York, North Yorkshire, England, UK)

York is a large and charming medieval city, with plenty of hotels located within the compact city centre. Much of the most reasonably priced accommodation lies on the outskirts of the city centre, often overlooking the River Ouse and being within easy walking distance of the York Minster.

The main tourist season in York runs roughly from early spring to late summer, when lodging rates are at their highest, although the city remains relatively popular in the winter months, especially during the brief Christmas holidays. A convenient accommodation finding service is available at the Tourist Information Centre, although a charge made for any hotels booked.

B&Bs and family run guest houses make up a sizeable proportion of all the available accommodation in York and many stand on the north-westerly side of the city, within the Bootham area. There are also plenty of guest houses and small hotels to the south-west of the centre, being concentrated around Bishopthorpe Road, Scarcroft Road and Southlands Road.

For luxury accommodation in York, consider staying at the Hilton Hotel on Tower Street, which is close to the city wall and Clifford's Tower. Considerably cheaper is the Park Inn on North Street, which comes with views of both the river and the minster, and is conveniently close to Station Road. Nearby, the Royal York Hotel has recently undergone a £7 million renovation and this beautiful Victorian building is just minutes from the railway station, and a short walk away from the popularNational Railway Museum (NRM) on Leeman Road.
