(Ostrava, North Moravia, Czech Republic)

Photo of shops around Ostrava's Masaryk SquareThe shopping scene in Ostrava surprises many visitors to this part of North Moravia, since it is so well developed. It really is most unlikely that you will leave empty handed when you embark on a shopping trip around Ostrava.

This is particularly if you choose to head to the Futurum shopping mall, which is home to a wealth of stores and stands next to the very centre of Ostrava, off the Novinarska and within a new and rapidly expanding retail park. The Futurum only opened at the end of 2007 and contains some 80 different shops, along with a Tesco hypermarket and also a multiplex entertainment centre, complete with cinema screens.

Where to Shop

The centrally located Bata department store is another good place to begin your shopping trip in Ostrava and its five floors sell everything from clothing and cosmetics, to gifts and stationery. Located on the Masarykovo Námesti and close to the Pivovarská, the Bata department store is also a good place to purchase some quality Czech souvenirs and gifts.

Just a stone's throw to the west is the Stodolni Ulice, which has become one of the most notable shopping streets in Ostrava and filled with an array of shops, which are interspersed with endless cafes and restaurants, perfect if you wish to rest your legs and enjoy a quick bite to eat. The Avion shopping park lies on the southern side of Ostrava and even boasts its very own Ikea furniture store.
