Zadar Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Zadar, Northern Dalmatia, Croatia)

Zadar has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The summertime traditionally goes from June to September, when it is hottest and nights are warm, although you could visit either side of these months (in May and early October) and still experience very decent weather. Typically, the spring is nicer than autumn, since it is much drier.

Although still quite nice compared with most of the rest of Europe, winter is not the best time to be visiting Zadar, as it is wet most days and can be cold. A nasty wind blows on down from the north, bringing with it chilling temperatures and rain. The only good points about visiting in the winter are fewer crowds and cheaper prices.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The seasons in Zadar are spring (March to May), summer (June to September), autumn (October and November), and winter (December to February). You could visit any time between May and September and enjoy a pleasant climate, but to be sure to miss the bulk of the rain and cold, avoid October to March. May and June have some of the nicest weather and also smaller crowds, and hotels at this time are generally not full either.

It tends to get overly hot in July and August, when the city becomes busy and hotels need to be booked well in advance. Daytime temperatures at this time hover around the mid 30s (°C). If you do brave the winter in Zadar, it rarely gets cold enough to warrant a hat and scarf (usually above 0°C at night), for example.
