Zadar Hotels and Accommodation

(Zadar, Northern Dalmatia, Croatia)

Zadar is not nearly as good as 'nearby' Split for accommodation. There are plenty of hotels and other types of accommodation, although there are only one or two in the historic town, on the peninsula, along with a handful of private rooms. This therefore means you will always need to walk or take a bus or taxi to see the churches and ruins.

The bulk of the lodging in Zadar is located a few kilometres to the north of the Old Town, in the modern suburb of Borik, with accommodation here being well connected by the Puntamika bus. Borik is right by the sea, too, and mostly has a good range of top-end resorts and hotels, as well as a youth hostel and a campsite. Local bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) are to be found further inland, near the city centre.

Where to Stay

Since there is little accommodation within the Old Town, you will need to head into the city centre (east) or up to the northern suburb of Borik. The latter is the most favoured as it is loaded with such a good choice of hotels and resorts, such as the all-inclusive Funimation, which is good for families with small children, with its pool and Falky Land activity centre.

The city centre of Zadar has more of the private, bed and breakfast type of lodging. While most of these small family run guest houses can only be booked by calling ahead or going through an agency, a growing number can be pre-booked online with the hotel consolidators.

In addition to hotels and bed and breakfasts are apartment complexes - usually based around the city centre, and one or two youth hostels. The Borik Youth Hostel is the de facto hostel in this part of Croatia and is conveniently located near the marina.

Further popular accommodation in Zadar is provided by the Hotel Kolovare, which is both close to the city centre and is just south of the Old Town and the Riva promenade.
