The very, very famous Belfry of Ghent
This is a very famous landmark in Ghent and is on the Sint Baaf's Plein, near to the city's cathedral. The Belfry is not difficult to find and comes in at more than 90 metres in height. It was completed in 1338 and opened in a grand ceremony, when the bells rang out for King Edward II. The tower is open every morning and afternoon (closed between midday and 2pm). Climb it for the best views of Ghent that you're likely to find.

Strolling along the Gent Canal
I look back on my holiday here with great fondness and apart from visiting the Belfry and doing all the usual touristy things that you do on a holiday, it was the canal that I have the fondest memories off. We spent a lovely afternoon walking by the canals and even though the weather wasn't great, it didn's matter one bit. We really liked seeing all the old buildings and the Korenlei and Graslei areas really stood out - very interesting, close to the Koren Markt.

Sint Baaf Cathedral
Sint Baaf Cathedral really does play an important part on the Ghent skyline and this church is traditionally Gothic in character. Very beautiful on the outside, very ornate on the inside. The altarpeice is what most people come to see, where the medieval painting called the 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb' is very famous indeed. Looked nice enough to me!

The Gravensteen Castle of Counts
I would recommend that you come to the Gravensteen. It is very central, on the Veerleplein, and is an interesting attraction.

I think that the Ghent Museum Card is worth getting
Many visitors often 'um' and 'ah' about whether or not to purchase the Ghent Museum Card. It is valid for a total of three days and this period only begins when you start using it. It is sold all over the city, as hotels, tourist offices and at many attractions - and if you are sightseeing, it does save you money. We crammed in loads of things and saved quite a bit, making it, in my opinion, money well spent.
