Located right in the centre of the country on the sea coast, Da Nang's climate takes characteristics from both southern and northern Vietnamese weather patterns, with a slight inclination towards the north. Classified as temperate with tropical monsoon characteristics, Da Nang's weather is split into two distinct seasons, wet and dry. The wet season runs from May to January, with the shorter dry season from February to April. Even at the height of the dry season, cold weather is unusual and during the wet season the humidity averages around 83 percent.

The climate is at its hottest between June and August, hovering around 30°C / 86°F in June and July, and peaking in August at some 33°C / 91°F, and at its lowest in December, January and February, when it drops to between 18°C / 64°F and 23°C / 73°F. In the hottest months, the humidity factor increases the heat index considerably. The wettest months are October and November, and average rainfall over the year reaches 2,500 mm / 98 inches. Due to its coastal location on the South China Sea, Da Nang is at occasional risk from hurricanes, especially in the autumn months.

As with any holiday or travel destination, the activities planned will dictate the best time to book. The early months of the year, between January and April, offer a favourable climate, particularly if sightseeing at outdoor attractions is a priority, and these months also have the advantage of lower humidity and less fierce temperatures.

For a beach holiday, later in the season will bring higher temperatures with a chance of rain and an increase in humidity. September, October and November see the most rain and there is a risk of hurricane activity at this time. During heavy rains, flooding often occurs and may make remote roads impassible - even by four-wheel drive vehicles. For the rest of the year, the ambient weather is pleasant enough to make a stay in Da Nang a holiday to remember.
