Da Nang Restaurants and Dining

(Da Nang, Vietnam)

Over the last several decades, Vietnamese cuisine has become known across the world for its fresh taste and primary use of vegetables, which make it a healthy alternative to many Western cuisines. In Da Nang, the hungry tourist will find a vast choice of restaurants, ranging from traditional and simple through noodle joints and more sophisticated beach eateries, up to the fine dining available in upscale restaurants based in downtown and the resorts.

For a change from the norm, floating restaurants ply the Han River during the evening. These range from massive three-storey Chinese-style boats to smaller and more intimate dining venues. There are also restaurants in Da Nang which serve international cuisine, popular with the expat community and those who visit on business.

What to Eat, and Where

All Vietnamese regional cuisines are represented in Da Nang, with ultra-fresh seafood an all-time favourite here. Pham Fang Dong Street has the best seafood eateries, with the beach restaurants at My Khe, either upscale or very local, being a good second dining choice if a sea view is required.

Oysters, clams, cuttlefish and squid are delicious here, either grilled or as part of a rich stew. The small bars found everywhere in Da Nang are also a good source of local dishes and lots of speciality restaurants serve just one main ingredient cooked in different ways. For example, some serve goat meat recipes, others turtle and yet more offer farmed crocodile meat! Just off Monument Square is an eatery which serves mountain meat such as porcupine, venison and wild boar.

For that very special occasion, look no farther than the Furuma Resort's Café Indochine. At what seems a reasonable price, this Asian signature restaurant serves up romantic nostalgia from the colonial era, along with pan-Asian and international cuisines from an exotic menu.

For those craving a sticky-sweet Western treat in Da Nang, the Bread of Life Bakery and Eatery is ready and willing to help. If you are looking for a quick snack, there are loads of good quality coffee houses around the centre, especially on the Le Loi and Nguyen Chi Thanh streets.
