Can Tho Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Can Tho, Mekong Delta, Vietnam)

Being in southern Vietnam, Can Tho has a tropical climate and three seasons - dry, wet and cool. It is best visited between December and February when it is cool and dry at night, while monsoon rains saturate the place between July and November. If you don't like excessive heat, avoid March to June.

Generally, the weather in Can Tho is warm and humid year round - day and night, owing to its low latitude, low altitude and positioning right in the sweaty Mekong Delta region. Therefore, it doesn't really matter when you visit, as the Delta looks fantastic in full sun and full rain.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Can Tho has very seasonal weather. The climate is warm all year round, but you need to plan when to go if rain or excessive heat bothers you. It is generally dry December to April and wet from May to November, with an average, year-round temperature of 27°C / 81°F. The latter part of the dry season (March and April) tends to get especially hot, when it would probably be better to head for the Central Highlands area.

Even during the monsoon months, it rarely rains for weeks on end. It is best to avoid June, July and August, though, when it is more humid and rainy than any other time. This is also typhoon season, although southern Vietnam never gets the powerful typhoons that the north seems to receive. Whatever time of year you decide to visit Can Tho, try and stay off the street at midday and use mosquito repellent with DEET at night.
