Lake Toba
If you are prepared to embark upon such a journey, you might also enjoy Lake Toba, which is exactly the same distance away from Sumatra as Gunung Leuser Park is. Lovely natural bodies of water there.

Ketambe hiking
We decided that we would need our own set of wheels for getting to and from Gunun Leuser Park upon learning that it was some 101 miles away from Sumatra centre. While there is plenty of wildlife and nature to adore, the trekking around Ketambe was amazing and well worth the cost of the hire vehicle and travelling time.

Re. Life at the top
Hello. We paid USD 100 each (there were four of us) and we got all the equipment needed, such as tents, sleeping bags etc, and transport to and from the airport. This also included homestays for two nights and food. Bargain!

Life at the top
Although it required a lot of planning, Mount Kerinci provided an unforgettable experience that will for forever be engrained in my memory. You do really need to be fit for this though as it takes two days to get to the top. Not sure if we overpaid for our guide, but he was worth it anyway and took good care of us.

Top golf but keep an eye out for the pesky monkeys!
They say that there's a first time for everything and until the other week I had never had my game of golf disrupted by monkeys. The Bintan Lagoon Resort Golf Club was great apart from that and there is also tennis if you aren't interested in swinging a club around. Also all the other activities you would expect to find at a resort.
