Re. Eerie Haunted House
Hello Mr/Mrs Finnegan. I am coming from Semarang and Gedung Lawang Sewu is Javanese for 'Thousands Doors'.

Eerie Haunted House
Gedung Lawang Sewu might not sound like much to foreign ears but it is the best attraction in the whole of Semarang, in my opinion. While architecture buffs might enjoy simple gazing at this Dutch colonial building from the outside, an eerie haunted house experience awaits all those who dare to enter. Never did find out what the name translates to in English though.

Re. Lovely Chinese Temple
Actually this is one of Semarang main attraction, so many guide can make money from tour around. Try and find travel agent or ask hotel for guide next time. Also, I recommend at least half a day to see all things of Sam Po Kong.

Lovely Chinese Temple
Although they are the minority, there's quite a Chinese community on Java and I enjoyed one particular restaurant near my hotel on a near-daily basis. I was advised to visit Sam Po Kong Gedong Batu by the lady that ran the restaurant. I only wish I'd have taken her along though as I needed some of the history explaining to me. I didn't put enough time aside to visit either!

Old Semarang
I recommend an afternoon spent looking at Geraja Blenduk. It is a beautiful architectural building almost as old as Semarang itself. Only a ten minute drive from the airport and awfully close to the downtown area.
