Varanasi Weather, When to Go and Climate Information

(Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India)

Picture of ghats along the River GangesThe city of Varanasi experiences a very hot summer climate, with scorching sunny weather at midday and pleasantly warm evenings, when locals often emerge to go about their daily business. Whilst the Varanasi climate at this time of the year is too hot for some, you can easily avoid the heat of the day, by either sightseeing first thing in the morning, or later on in the day, and at lunchtime, enjoy a tasty meal in an air-conditioned restaurant.

For many, the best time to visit Varanasi is anything between October and March, when some days can even feel a little chilly. Therefore, you may even need to bring a pullover or jacket, especially if you are planning to be out and about in the evening during the winter months, when overnight frosts are not completely unheard of. However, on the sunniest winter days, a simple T-shirt will likely suffice.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

The monsoon season generally falls between July and September, and not only brings heavy rainy weather, but some electric storms and windy spells, which blow dust all over the city. However, do bear in mind that it rarely rains all through the day, although most days do experience rain in some form.

September sees the end of the humid monsoon season and a return to a more pleasant climate, and the start of the tourist season returns again, once more.
