Kheria Airport (AGR) Information

Kheria Airport is both an important Indian Air Force base and a popular public air facility serving the nearby city of Agra and its star attraction, the Taj Mahal. Because of its dual function, Agra's airport only handles a small number of flights on an irregular schedule, mostly from New Delhi, Varanasi and Khajuraho.

Also called Agra Airport and the Kheria Air Force Station, the main function of this small terminal is as a military base for the Indian Air Force, but savvy travellers can take advantage of quick flights from New Delhi, typically on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Air Deccan.

The terminal is fairly small, but contains a couple of gift shops selling typical travel items, reading material and souvenirs. A post office, banking facilities and car hire offices round off the modest list of amenities at Kheria Airport. Most visitors use taxis to reach their onward destination, although car rental can be equally convenient if you are happy to self-drive.

Kheria Airport is located about 7 km / 4 miles west of downtown Agra and some 14 km / 9 miles west of the Taj Mahal. Both State Highway 39 and the Fatehpur Sikri Road (Highway 11) provide direct road access to the city from the airport. Connections to the Taj Mahal on State Highway 62 are also possible.

• A post office and medical facilities are available inside the terminal
• Parking is available adjacent to the terminal

Cars and Taxis

The main transport option from Kheria Airport to Agra is taxi. The taxi rank can be found directly outside the terminal and is open during scheduled flight times. Renting a car is another way to reach the city and its many attractions, with several companies operating in the terminal. State Highways 11 and 39 run right from the airport into the heart of Agra, towards the suburbs of Mohanpura and Katlupur, with this particular journey taking around 15 minutes.

Shuttle Buses

There are no public or private bus services running between the airport and Agra city centre. However, some of the more upmarket hotels in Agra offer complimentary shuttle bus pick ups for their guests, and so it is advisable to check if this transportation option is available at your hotel when booking your room.
