South Sudan Museums and Art Galleries

(South Sudan, SS, North-East Africa)

Currently, there are no actual museums anywhere in South Sudan. Nor is there a traditional arts collection housed within a national art gallery in this fledgling nation.

Many of the country's most important historical archives and documents are stored away within a government compound, sadly being in a rather poor condition and continuing to decay, due to high temperatures and unfortunate insect attacks.

These archives are in urgent need of extensive conservation work, before they can be put on display to members of the general public and preserved for future generations to enjoy over the subsequent years.

General Information about Possible Future Museums

Potential tourists will no doubt be pleased to here that plans are afoot for the building of a new national museum. This institution is expected to tell the story of the people, culture and history of South Sudan, through a series of tangible artefacts and displays.

There are many different questions that need to be answered and decisions that need to be made before the country's national museum can actually leave the drawing board and become a reality.
