Democratic Republic of the Congo Hotels and Accommodation
(Democratic Republic of the Congo - DRC, CD, Central Africa)
Good hotel accommodation is available in
Kinshasa, the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, although there's not a great deal of choice.
Hotels and similar lodging options can be quite expensive in this city, particularly when compared to those found in other African cities. Outside of Kinshasa, accommodation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo includes numerous campsites and a more limited selection of lodges, often being conveniently located close to national parks, such as the Virunga. In the city of Bukavu, on the far eastern border, the best hotels overlook Lake Kivu and include both the Orchid and La Roche hotels.
Where to Stay
The five-star Grand Hotel is perhaps Kinshasa's best-known, and most expensive, hotel. Rooms are air-conditioned and facilities include a swimming pool, several restaurants and shops. Guests can also enjoy staying within the diplomatic quarter of Kinshasa, close to the presidential palace. Other international-style hotels include the Hotel Pyramide and the Memling Hotel.
For visitors whose budget can't stretch quite as far as the Grand Hotel, but who want to stay in the city centre, a few other hotels offer comfortable accommodation at more reasonable prices. These are located around Avenue du Tchad and Boulevard du 30 Juin.
If you are planning a game-viewing tour of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, then there's certainly no shortage of camping options. Campsites offer a chance to stay at the heart of the country, close to its villages and people. Alternatively, some lodge accommodation is available and often quite African in character.
