With its attractive setting alongside the Susquehanna River and plentiful restaurants, downtown Harrisburg is often the ideal place to look for hotels. However, there is also plenty of good-value accommodation elsewhere in the city, despite this being a relatively small state capital.

For business travelers staying in Harrisburg, it may make a great deal of sense to find accommodation on the outskirts of the city, close to one of the busy interstates, such as Interstate I-81 (north), Interstate I-83 (east) or Interstate I-76 (south - the Pennsylvania Turnpike).

Outside of the city, further hotels can be found in neighboring Hershey, Lancaster and York, although they are often more expensive when it comes to lodging rates.

Where to Stay

Those wishing to stay in the very center of Harrisburg should consider the Comfort Inn on South Front Street, the Crowne Plaza on South 2nd Street or the Hilton Hotel on North 2nd Street. All of these hotels offer downtown accommodation just a stone's throw from the Market Street bridge, and only a short walk from top sights such as the Pennsylvania State Capitol, the State Museum of Pennsylvania and St. Patrick's Cathedral.

If you are looking for luxury accommodation in Harrisburg, then the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey Hotel on Lindle Road is a safe bet, being located on the southeastern side of the city, in the suburb of Chambers Hill and just off junction 2 of Interstate I-283. Close by and on the other side of the interstate is a La Quinta Inn, a cheaper alternative in this part of the city.

On the northern side of the city, budget accommodation comes in the form of the Econo Lodge on Nationwide Drive and the almost adjacent Red Roof Inn on the Corporate Circle.

Just down the road, the SpringHill Suites Hotel (by Marriott) on Capital Drive offers competitive lodging rates. Elsewhere in Harrisburg, popular hotel chains include the Best Western Premier (Central Hotel and Conference Center) on East Park Drive, close to the Point Shopping Center and the Kohl Memorial Park, and also the nearby Holiday Inn Express on Union Deposit Road.
