Santa Fe Property Market and Real Estate Guide

(Santa Fe, New Mexico - NM, USA)

Picture of downtown Santa FeSanta Fe, the capital city of New Mexico and the fourth-biggest city in the state, is characterized by its warm summers, cool winters, and natural attractions. For years it has been a popular place to live for Hollywood actors, filmmakers and other artists, leading to some very expensive homes and a high cost of living. However, there are still affordable neighborhoods for those without multi-million dollar incomes.

West Alameda, Guadalupe, the South Capital and Southeast Santa Fe are areas offering a wide arrangement of traditional, adobe and ranch-style homes suitable for extended-period residence. Although the cost of housing can be higher here than in other parts of the state, homes typically retain their value, contrary to the rest of the US during the past five years.

Renting Serviced Apartments

Serviced apartments, while not in abundance, are available, particularly in the area surrounding the Nob Hill district. While this area is slower-paced due to the propensity of the city to attract retirees, the serviced apartments here are the most attractive in the city.

Renting serviced apartments in Santa Fe can be quite expensive, although the typical move-in fees are consistent with the rest of the US. Prior to acquiring a key to your new residence, expect to pay the equivalent of three months' rent. This includes the first and last month's rent and a security deposit, refundable upon completion of the lease.

Buying Apartments and Houses

Homes can be very expensive here, especially in the Southeast Santa Fe area, where they reach into many millions of dollars. However, some parts of this district, such as the De Vargas Heights area, with ranch or pueblo-style homes, are much more affordable. Guadalupe and West Alameda also have many available homes suitable for those planning on staying a few years, as does the South Capital district.

The high cost of living in Santa Fe, as well as the many expensive homes, makes whether or not to buy property here a difficult decision. While purchasing a condo may make the most economic sense for short-term residents who want to own property, those who decide to purchase a home usually find it to be a worthwhile investment, as land values stay consistently high.

Real Estate Agents

While some of the real estate agents here are used to dealing with sales of multi-million dollar homes, there are many that have plenty of experience catering to the less affluent. The right realtor should be able to find the perfect home for your stay.
