Fort Myers Gay and Lesbian Scene

A fairly small and open-minded city, Fort Myers makes the most of its beachfront location on the southwestern coast of Florida, where it has become a popular vacation destination for the gay and lesbian crowd. And close by, both Naples and Port Charlotte are within comfortable driving distance, each coming with their very own set of attractions for same-sex couples.

Although there is no specific gay neighborhood present within Fort Myers, all communities are welcoming and LGBT couples choose to live all over the city, rather than being concentrated in an actual 'gayborhood'.

If you are looking for nightlife during your stay, then there are several gay bars and clubs that are worth considering in the city, on roads such as Cleveland Avenue, the Colonial Boulevard, Evans Avenue, Southeast 47th Terrace and Vincennes Street. Many people are drawn to the very established Office Pub on Cleveland Avenue, which is to be found on the southern side of the city, a few blocks away from the Edison Mall. The Office Pub is actually the oldest gay bar in the whole of southwestern Florida and has been open for business here since the early years of the 1980s.

Also popular in Fort Myers is the Bottom Line nightclub on Evans Avenue, which is to be found within a southerly warehouse district and comprises no less than seven different bars, all under the same roof. This is by far the largest entertainment complex of its kind in this part of Florida and the Bottom Line offers up all kinds of performances. Most shows tend to start at around midnight and include drag queens, local talent, DJs and celebrities.

Fort Myers Gay Festivals and Events

Popular local LGBT related events in the Fort Myers area include film festivals, volleyball picnics and the SWFL Pride Festival held at Alliance of the Arts, 10091 McGregor Boulevard.

The city's enticing gay calendar features a wealth of entertainment and events, including concert performances by the SW Florida Gay and Lesbian Chorus, the LGBT Formal Gala and SWFL Pride Festival, which takes place each year in October.
