Cayo Costa State Park is located on an island close to Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island and is accessible by private boat or passenger ferry only. Koreshan State Historic Site

Visitors to this unique attraction are given the chance to learn about the 19th century settler Cyrus Reed Teed, who back in 1894 formed a colony wherein he established a new religion known as Koreshanity. Teed's death in 1908 resulted in a decline in the colony and in 1961 the last four remaining colonists relinquished the land to the state, after which it was then declared a Florida attraction and made available to all for viewing. Activities within the Koreshan State Historic Site area include camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing and picnicking.
