Families are certainly well catered for in Santa Ana when it comes to recreation and tourist attractions. Both the Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland theme parks are within comfortable driving distance to the northeast, as are the beaches of Huntington and Newport to the south.

In Santa Ana itself, the Discovery Science Center on North Main Street is an especially popular attraction on the northern side of the city, where it sits close to the Santiago Park Nature Reserve. This science center boasts a contemporary frontage and opened here in 1998. Today, more than half a million visitors tour the themed exhibits each year, enjoying the life-size recreations of dinosaurs, the space rocket, the eco displays and the earthquake exhibits.

An urban jungle of exotics awaits tourists within Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park, on the eastern outskirts of the city. These pleasant zoological gardens cover just over 8 hectares / 20 acres and first opened in 1952, today welcoming close to 300,000 visitors. Themed attractions include the Brazilian rainforest named Amazon's Edge, the Colors of the Amazon Aviary, the friendly animals within the Crean Family Farm and the Land of the Grasses, which comprises desert and wetland areas. Children visiting the zoo will particularly enjoy a ride onboard the 'Zoofari Express' train.


Attractions for grown-ups vacationing in Santa Ana include the day spa on West 20th Street named the Montanya Spa, where you can enjoy a few hours of serenity and extreme pampering. And afterwards, you may like to catch a show or concert at the Yost Theater on North Spurgeon Street, which is to be found roughly a mile to the south and just off North Main Street.
