The popular Californian coastal resort of Long Beach is said to exhibit two main climate characteristics, enjoying a mixture of Mediterranean weather and semi-arid qualities. Sunshine is certainly in plentiful supply in this city, as is the case throughout Southern California, and temperatures remain warm to hot all through the year.

Long Beach sits next to the North Pacific Ocean and temperature extremes are a little more prevalent along the oceanfront itself, rather than inland, within the city centre.

This means that some mornings are quite overcast and devoid of blue skies, until the midday sun arrives to burn off the fog and shine down on the city once more.

Even during the hottest summer climate, the city's temperatures rarely feel oppressive, thanks to a cooling, refreshing sea breeze. A general lack of humidity also makes any potential heat wave easier to tolerate.

As is common with so many towns and cities in Southern California, Long Beach experiences its highest levels of rainfall during the winter months. January and February see roughly 6.3 cm / 2.5 inches to 7.6 cm / 3 inches of rain each month, compared to the rather dry months of July and August, which usually both come with average precipitation levels of under 0.1 cm / 0.05 inches.
