Montgomery Hotels and Accommodation

(Montgomery, Alabama - AL, USA)

Being one of the largest cities in Alabama and the proud state capital, Montgomery can certainly boast plenty in the way of affordable accommodation and familiar chain hotels, with brands such as Best Western, Country Inn, Hilton, Holiday Inn and Microtel.

Hotels in the city of Montgomery have become more plentiful in recent years, due to an increase in demand, although many target business travelers and politicians during the week, reducing their lodging rates when the weekend comes along.

Downtown Montgomery has certainly enjoyed a new lease of life in recent years, following the arrival of the trendy entertainment and dining district known as the Alley. However, many of the cheapest hotels tend to be found grouped around the busy interstates I-65 and I-85.

Where to Stay

For many visitors, accommodation in downtown Montgomery is preferable. However, the best selection of hotels resides on the northwestern side of the city center, where highlights include the Hampton Inn and Suites on Commerce Street, and the Embassy Suites and Renaissance hotels, both of which sit on Tallapoosa Street.

For accommodation with a little more character and more of a homely feel, the Lattice Inn on South Hull Street may well appeal. This small inn stands within the historic Garden District of Montgomery, where it dates from 1906 and features a saltwater swimming pool, a landscaped garden complete with koi pond and well-appointed guest suites. Nearby, you will be able to walk to the campus of the Alabama State University (home of the New ASU Stadium) and also the Governor's Mansion.

Another popular alternative to basic mid-range hotels in Montgomery is the Hillcrest Manor Bed and Breakfast (B&B) on South Court Street, which is just a few blocks away from the Lattice Inn and is somewhat grander in appearance.

The Hillcrest Manor is a period mansion hotel that now appears on the Alabama Register of Historic Places. This important landmark certainly ranks amongst Montgomery's most imposing buildings, with its elegant portico supported by huge fluted stone columns, Roman Revival-style architecture, luxury accommodation and spacious grounds. Wedding packages here are particularly popular, making full use of the beautiful gardens.
