Where to Stay

Guadalajara has plenty of budget accommodation, although the cheapest hotels are fairly spread out and located within various pockets all over the city. However, a number of reasonably priced hotels can be found within central Guadalajara (Zona Centro) and if you are intending to spend your time within the downtown district, it is sensible to look for accommodation in this area.

For backpackers looking for value lodging, downtown Guadalajara features two main youth hostels, although amenities are understandably basic. Other cheap hotels in this part of Guadalajara lie within the Maestranza area, such as the extremely historic Hotel Francés, which is more than 400 years old and an important local landmark, being the most historic hotel in the whole city.

Tourists staying in hotels along the Avenida La Paz will also be able to enjoy the nightlife, with many nearby clubs, bars and restaurants.

Close to Guadalajara's state governmental offices, hotels and accommodation options along the Avenida Juárez are just a short walk away from the lively San Juan de Dios market, which offers a true taste of local life. Next to the historic district of Guadalajara, hotels on the Avenida Ninos Héroes are especially popular with business travellers, being close to a number of commercial areas. Families will also find well-placed hotels in this part of Guadalajara, with a number featuring lush tropical gardens, terraces, pools and spas.
