Always popular are the neighbouring vineyards and wineries, which offering guided tours and almost obligatory wine tasting.

Located alongside each other and separated by the Queens Parade Road, both the Memorial Park and Queens Parade Park take up a large portion of Niagara on the Lake, with their plentiful attractions being situated on the eastern side of town. For tourist attractions with a difference, both jet boat excursions and evening ghost tours have never been more popular with visitors to this Canadian town and certainly offer something quite memorable and unique.

Tours around Lake Ontario and the Niagara River don't come much more exciting than onboard a high-speed jet boat. Jet boat tours are readily available and frequently depart from the dock situated on Melville Street, close to the King George II Inn. Starting off slowly and passing a number of the lakefront attractions, the Jet Boat Tours last around an hour and soon pick up pace as the waters become more turbulent. Those looking for something a little more relaxing will also find plenty of traditional cruise boats to choose from.

Memorial Park / Queens Parade Park

Memorial Park is home to the main recreational attractions, which include soccer pitches, a volleyball court, playing fields and even an outdoor swimming pool, providing a very enjoyable way to cool down in hot weather. Queens Parade Park is sited right next to the Niagara River and is where you will find the Fort George National Historic Site.

Vineyards, Wineries and Wine Tours

In total, there are more than 30 individual wineries scattered around the Niagara on the Lake area, and so an increasing number of tourists are now choosing to spend a day, or at least an afternoon, exploring some of the most popular winery attractions. Organised wine tours are available from guides on Picton Street, travelling between the wineries on bicycle and always allowing plenty of time for a spot of wine tasting. Of note, the Niagara Grape and Wine Festivals takes place each year in September, with events lasting an entire week. The town's very best wineries include:

Queen's Royal Park

Queen's Royal Park enjoys a very scenic setting next to the mouth of Niagara River, being found off Front Street North and Delater Street. This is a very pleasant parkland, with plenty of benches and picnic tables, together with seasonal flowers, pathways and large trees under which to shade yourself on a sunny summer's day. If you are in Queen's Royal Park during the evening, do keep you eyes open for the resident ghost, who is known as the 'Woman in White' and said to be often seen walking through the gazebo.

Ghost Walks

If you are prepared for some ghostly tales and ghoulish attractions, then do consider embarking on one of Niagara on the Lake's highly recommended ghost walks. Led by experienced guides who dress for the part, and certainly know how to tell a story, these walks take place during the evening to create the necessary atmosphere, when you learn about how Captain Swayze was killed at the Olde Angel Inn, and the headless officer known to those at the Old Fort. Guides lead the way holding a lantern and will be sure to have their audiences quite captivated, and often feeling a little spooky.
