My favourite Mayan ruins
It is easy to understand why the Mayan ruins are so popular for tourists to South America, especially sites such as Chichen Itza. I wanted to escape the crowds though and heeded the advice of my taxi driver, who said that I should go to Mayapan instead. There was hardly anyone there, which is hard to understand, and I managed to get some great photos.

An adrenaline-pumped Latin adventure
Did the urban tour too, one of the best I went on while in South America and better than the favela tours I did in Brazil too. Most of that was down to the guides though. Which one did you have, can you remember their name? This is one for the adrenaline junkies that like living life on the edge.

A real look at South American life
We decided that we would have to be fearless in order to see the real Venezuela and South America - which is why we booked a tour with Merdia Urban Adventures. We discovered back streets and stepped into the lives that the locals have while sampling their food and learning more about their traditions.

A truly wonderful house museum
I came from Peru to Merida and I am most interested in local architecture. The governor's palace was amazing and all room was so great with decorations. Art people will like the murals that tell the story of Merida history. Many might like that it is free entry too.

A dream come true for chocolate lovers
Like most women, my wife loves chocolate - which is why she didn't take much convincing when I tried to push her into visiting the EcoMuseo del Cacao with me when were on holiday in Merida. It is nicely laid out and different to any other I've seen. Not just about chocolate but also other cocoa products.
