Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Typical of , the weather experienced in Arequipa can be divided loosely into two seasons - summer and the rest of the year. The summer months fall between January and March, when the climate is reliably hot, although also a little humid and sticky.

It is at this time of the year that local Peruvians head to the beaches, since at other times of the year, a grey coastal mist referred to as the 'garua' is commonplace. Whilst the summer in Arequipa is hot and sunny, this is also the wet season, when moderate rainfall is at its most likely, although precipitation rarely averages more than 25 mm / 1 inch or 35 mm / 1.4 inches per month.
