Top-end lodging options in Antigua in particular can't be beaten anywhere else in the country and prices are pretty decent year round. It is always best to book Antigua hotels online and ahead of time. Going through the Internet is the de facto way of booking hotels today and is certainly the best way to pick up discounts. Do bear in mind that available accommodation may become scarce during the annual Semana Santa celebrations each April.

Where to Stay

You will find more hotels in this city than anywhere else in the country - even at the beaches. It is often best to stay in Antigua and commute to Guatemala City, even if you prefer the latter, since Antigua hotels are that diverse and appealing. Guatemala City itself is not what it once was and Antigua is suitably devoid of the bustle of the capital.

You can find anything from backpacker-style hostels to a large selection of mid-range accommodation options - including inns and bed and breakfasts, all the way up to the most stunning paradore guest houses. In addition, Guatemala is popular with homestays, where you get to stay with a family, and there are many decent options in and around Antigua.

Some of the best budget hotels in Antigua are located on the Avenida Norte and this bracket includes the likes of the cheap Kafka, the Jungle Party Hostel and the Black Cat Hostel. Moderately priced accommodation includes the Casa Ovalle, with the streets of Calle Oriente and Calle Poniente offering the most choice.

There is a vast range of top-end lodging to choose between, such as the Casa Concepcion boutique bed and breakfast, or the El Convento at the top of the tree. Some of Antigua's top hotels are to be found lining the Avenida Sur.
