View of the island of FuerteventuraFuerteventura is an easy island to travel around and offers a number of affordable modes of transport. Taxis are a useful and reliable option favoured by some visitors, while buses are certainly a more economical way to cover the island.

A selection of car rental companies offer good deals with excellent rates, with a number of car hire transport offices located at Fuerteventura Airport, which is close to Puerto del Rosario.

Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) is situated just outside Puerto del Rosario, the island capital, and close to Caleta de Fuste. The airport is positioned close to the sea and facilities include ATM's, post boxes, food and drink outlets, car rental offices, long and short-term parking, a bureau de change, a help desk, disabled access, first aid, a lost luggage office, toilets with baby-changing amenities and a variety of shops including a pharmacy, travel agent, gift shop, newsagents and a duty free shop.


There are plenty of taxis at the airport and the taxi rank is situated in front of the main building, just outside of the arrivals area. Bus services also travel to and from Fuerteventura Airport. One bus runs approximately every hour to Puerto del Rosario and Caleta de Fuste, while another bus only runs three times per day, from Monday to Saturday, covering Caleta de Fuste, Gran Tarajal and Costa Calma. The information desk at the airport offers bus timetables. Also of note, there are several car hire companies situated onsite, where a wide range of vehicles are available for hire.

Car Rental

An ideal way to explore Fuerteventura is to hire a car. There are a variety of car hire transport companies based on the island, offering a wide selection of hire cars ranging from budget cars to the more upmarket cars.

Driving in Fuerteventura is on the right-hand side of the road and the national speed limit is 90 km per hour / 56 miles per hour. Drivers have to be over 21 years of age and have held a clean driver's licence for at least one year. A driver's licence and passport are required to obtain car hire in Fuerteventura.

Buses

Bus services on Fuerteventura are an ideal way to travel around the main towns. Buses are comfortable and air-conditioned, and travelling by bus is an inexpensive and reliable way to see most parts of the north and south areas of the island.

Tiadhe provides a bus service, which is located at Carretera del Sur. This bus company travels from Fuerteventura's capital of Puerto del Rosario, to many areas in both the north and south of the island, including the airport, Caleta de Fuste, Corralejo, Costa Calma, Vegas del Rio de Palmas and Morro Jable. If you are considering using buses regularly, it may be a useful option to purchase a discount bus card, which is called a Tarjeta Dinero.

Taxis

Fuerteventura has a reliable public taxi service and many towns have taxi ranks that are easily accessible. Taxis are also a convenient way to travel from the airport directly to your holiday accommodation.

Local taxis tend to be well maintained and comfortable, with pleasant taxi drivers that are extremely familiar with the island.
