(Turin, Piedmont, Italy)

View of the Po RiverLocated in the north-west of Italy, the climate in Turin is definitely more continental than Mediterranean in nature. The winter months bring cold, although not harsh, weather to Turin and summer visitors can look forward to high, but not excessive, temperatures. Rainfall can be heavy at times, but mostly restricted to late spring and the autumn.

Turin does not experience the tourist crowds of other Italian cities and so makes a perfect holiday destination for visitors throughout the year, even during the appealing summer climate.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Spring heralds the arrival of milder weather for visitors to Turin - a mildness usually lasting right through until the autumn. Temperatures during May can reach a high of 24°C / 80°F.

Many visitors to Turin consider that the summer is the best time to enjoy all that the city has to offer. Average temperatures range from 24°C / 75°F to 27°C / 80°F in July and August. Despite the heat, the climate rarely feels too hot or oppressive to walk around the city or sightsee. It is always possible to head out to the hills surrounding Turin to find cooler weather. As the autumn season gets underway, Turin can often be found shrouded in fog. October and November also see the most rain. Temperatures can be rather variable, from a pleasant 17°C/ 62°F in October to a chillier 4°C / 39°F as autumn turns to winter.

The Alps shelter Turin from the worst of the winter weather experienced in Northern Europe. However, temperatures are still fairly low in the city between December and February, when the climate can feel somewhat chilly at times. Average daytime temperatures can reach a high of 10°C / 50°F, although in January, it's likely to be nearer the 3°C / 37°F mark. However, winter generally experiences the driest weather of the year in Turin, so although the air feels cold, it is not particularly damp and snow in the city is a rare occurrence. For visitors who aren't concerned about acquiring a summer suntan, this is a good time to visit Turin, perhaps combining it with a trip to ski resorts within the nearby mountains.
