Hai Phong Beaches and Water Sports

(Hai Phong, Vietnam)

Those holidaying in Hai Phong really should leave time to visit nearby Do Son Beach, which is located a little over 20 km / 12 miles to the south-east of the city and well connected by frequent bus transport.

Do Son Beach is widely regarded as one of the finest beaches in the whole of Vietnam and is located on a narrow peninsula, between two river estuaries close to Hai Phong. Backed by sandalwood trees, the beach offers plenty of shade, as well as some enticing sandy stretches.

General Information

After gaining much popularity over the past few decades, Do Son Beach now has the appearance of a small resort, with a number of cheap hotels clustered around the coastline, together with eateries and street hawkers.

Far quieter than Hai Phong, Do Son offers the perfect retreat from the city, although do bear in mind that the water quality is not generally regarded as being suitable for swimming and water sports. There are also various hiking trails along the coastline, which offer a pleasant way to spend the day.

From Do Son, visitors are able to sail to a number of additional beaches and popular destinations, such as Dien Bien, Ha Long Bay, Hon Dat Island and Long Chau. Cat Ba Island is also within sailing distance of Hai Phong and offers a good selection of water sports, such as fishing, diving and snorkelling trips, along with water skiing and sea kayaking.
