Uganda enjoys a climate that is ideal for sightseeing all year round, thanks to its equatorial location. In particular, temperatures are fairly pleasant throughout the year.

The best time to visit Uganda is between December and February, or between June and September, when the rainfall is at its lowest level and the weather is at its most pleasant.

Timing your visit well is certainly worth considering if you are planning to head out on a gorilla safari, when a certain amount of outdoor hiking is involved.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Uganda comes with two notable rainy seasons. From April to May, most places experience a short rainy season. At this time of year, there are plenty of dramatic thunderstorms. The long rainy season runs from September to November, with most of the rain falling in the night or during the early hours of dawn. Usually, much of the day is sunny and rain-free, allowing sightseeing to carry on unimpeded.

The area around Lake Victoria sees the heaviest rainfall in Uganda. The driest weather reliably falls between December and February, and again from June to September.

The climate and temperatures vary between the highlands and lowlands of Uganda. For example, if you are planning a trip to the highlands, warm clothing will be needed to withstand chilly night-time temperatures and sudden storms. In any one place, however, average temperatures do not vary a great deal from one month to another. If anything, the warmest months tend to be between November and March, with average temperatures of around 22°C / 72°F. Of note, average daytime temperatures rarely exceed 30°C / 86°F.
