Madison Hotels and Accommodation

(Madison, Wisconsin - WI, USA)

A medium-sized capital city, Madison may not be as large as Milwaukee (Wisconsin's biggest city), but it does come with more than enough hotels to choose between. Accommodation ranges from mid-range lodging (two and three stars) to cheap motels and travelodges lining outlying interstates.

If you favor familiar brands when looking for accommodation and prefer a central location, then consider staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on West Johnson Street, close to the Kohl Center. Also based in downtown Madison is the Wisconsin Union Hotel on West Dayton Street.

Standing alongside Capitol Square and just a stone's throw from the imposing Wisconsin State Capitol Building, the Best Western Plus Inn on the Park on South Carroll Street boasts a setting in the very heart of the action. Many of Madison's top attractions are just a stroll away from the Best Western, such as the Wisconsin Veterans Museum on West Mifflin Street.

Where to Stay

Also in this part of Madison and offering a reasonable attempt at luxury accommodation is the three-star Hyatt Place Downtown on West Washington Avenue.

The Hyatt Hotel is conveniently close to a host of restaurants, shops and theaters, and roughly a ten-minute walk from both the City Hall and the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center on the John Nolen Drive. Nearby, you may also like to check out the scenic Capital City Trail and riverside Law Park.

Away from downtown Madison and to the far northeast is a further cluster of accommodation, around Interstate I-94 (exit 135B). Popular hotels here are close to the American Center and include the Super 8 and the Rodeway Inn, both of which offer cheap budget lodging with good transport connections.

For some real character and something different to a mainstream hotel, the Arbor House Hotel on Monroe Street may well appeal, being found roughly 3 miles / 5 km to the southwest of Wisconsin's State Capitol. Guests will be able to enjoy period charm, mountain bikes and a close proximity to Lake Wingra, the Glenway Golf Course and the University of Wisconsin Arboretum.

Budget accommodation comes in the form of the HI Madison Hostel on South Butler Street, where simple dormitories are complemented by an adjoining Costa Rican-style restaurant.
