The climate in the city of Albany can be characterized by its cold, freezing winter months and surprisingly warm summers, with a good chance of sunshine.

Throughout the year, the weather in Upstate New York is distinctly seasonal and variable. December and January serve as the coldest months, when temperatures hover around 0°C / 32°F by day and drop well below freezing by night.

From November through April, snowy weather in Albany can be expected at any time, with the chilly month of January averaging as much as 16 inches / 41 cm of snow, or more. Either side of this period, even the milder months of October and May can see occasional snow flurries from time to time.

This is particularly so in July and August, which are the two warmest months - and the most humid. Combined with the summer holiday season, this fine weather sees high visitor numbers in Albany, although the mild temperatures in May and September should not be overlooked, especially if you prefer a quieter stay.
