There are certainly plenty of accommodation options dotted around Albany to choose from. In the city center, though, the choice of chain hotels is a little limited.

Relatively central is the Holiday Inn Express, which stands on Broadway and is conveniently just off Interstate I-787, being close to the Dunn Memorial Bridge and the Hudson River.

Further lodging in downtown Albany comes in the form of the TownePlace Suites. This hotel is to be found on Holland Avenue and close to Lincoln Park, and generally appeals most to business travelers and visitors to the neighboring Albany Stratton VA Medical Center. For more hotels and accommodation in the downtown district, look along roads such as Chapel Street (Hampton Inn), as well as Lodge Street, Pearl Street, State Street and Willett Street, where views across Washington Park are a particular draw.

Where to Stay

Coming highly recommended in downtown Albany is the Pine Haven guest house on Western Avenue, a Victorian-style mansion where character is complemented by sensibly priced lodging rates. Situated no more than a mile away from this particular hotel are the Albany Medical Center, the New York State University, the Empire State Plaza, St. Peter's Hospital and the State Capitol Building.

Located on the western side of Interstate I-787 - Exit 2 (Governor Thomas E. Dewey Thruway / New York State Thruway) are a number of cheap chain motels and budget hotels. Accommodation in this part of Albany offers affordable lodging with good connections to the downtown district, which is roughly a ten-minute drive away.

For upmarket luxury accommodation with a little more of a price tag, the Morgan State House Inn on State Street is of note. Based within Albany's Capital District, this charming 19th-century hotel caters well to all types of traveler, with its spacious guest rooms, feather mattresses, quality cotton linen and a pretty garden with lots of flowers.

A number of visitors to New York State's capital choose to look for accommodation close to Albany International Airport, on the northern outskirts of the city, nearby Latham. Hotels here are in good supply, with popular chains including the Best Western on Wolf Road, the Hampton Inn on Ulenski Drive, La Quinta Inn on New Loudon Road, Quality Inn and Suites on Troy Schenectady Road, and SpringHill Suites (Marriott) on California Avenue, amongst others.
