Bakersfield Tourist Attractions and Sightseeing
(Bakersfield, California - CA, USA)
Theaters, concert halls, cinema complexes, entertainment venues and family attractions are all very much present within the boundaries of Bakersfield, while close by, the world-famous
Sequoia National Forest beckons visitors and sits at the base of the Greenhorn mountains.
The
Bakersfield Speedway is one of the most exciting and unexpected tourist attractions in the city, with this banked clay track offering regular racing nights each Saturday. There are also a number of additional speedway tracks close to the city, including the
Kern County Raceway Park, which sits roughly 20 miles / 32 km to the southwest.
There are several multi-screen cinemas in the city, including both the
Reading Cinemas Valley Plaza and the
Edwards Bakersfield Stadium. However, when it comes to character and history, the
Fox Theater does rather steal the show, being found on H Street and dating back to the beginning of the 1930s. Today, the Fox Theater is known for its stylish Art Deco architecture and tall clock tower, and although it does still screen movies, it mainly serves as an entertainment venue, hosting concerts, comedy gigs and music nights.
Families on vacation in Bakersfield and looking for the perfect tourist attraction for children should consider spending an afternoon at the
California Living Museum. This small zoo covers an area of approximately 6 hectares / 14 acres and opened here in the year 1983. There are now more than 250 animals living at the zoo, the majority of which are native and have been rescued at some stage in their lives.
Fans of country and western music should head on over to the
Buck Owens Crystal Palace, while for sizeable sporting events (including basketball, football, ice hockey and wrestling) and occasional circus shows, the
Rabobank Arena may well deliver on that front. For a spot of simple recreation, the
River Walk Park is certainly a pleasant place to hang out when the sun is shining, with its lakes, pathways and resident
Bright House Amphitheater.
