Where to Stay

Waterfront accommodation in Galway includes the excitingly contemporary Harbour Hotel with its great design and location, and the upscale Radisson SAS, which is known for its luxury leisure facilities. In the city centre close to all attractions and nightlife are the towers of the Forster Court Hotel, the House Hotel - famous for its characterful old stone building yet thoroughly modern in its facilities, and the imposing 150 year-old Hotel Meyrick, overlooking Eyre Square.

Waterfront view of the cityFor visitors who love exploring the city but prefer not to lodge in it, there are many accommodation options on the outskirts of Galway, in the surrounding countryside and along the wild Atlantic coastline, all just a short trip away. Many hotels were originally mansions or the country houses of the gentility, and have been converted with regard to their architectural features and grounds.

The Ardilaun in Taylor's Hill on the edge of the city is one such hotel and was originally a country manor house before being converted to provide extensive accommodation, as well as a large swimming pool, gymnasium and wedding facilities.

Further waterfront photoAlso very much of note in Galway is the five-star Glenlow Abbey Hotel at Bushy Park, which was once the ancestral home of one of the city's ruling families and stands in extensive grounds.

Salthill serves as Galway city's seaside resort district and has a choice of hotels and lodging, with magnificent sea views along its promenade. Everywhere in Galway, even affordably priced guest houses and bed and breakfasts are likely to be set in Victorian or Georgian properties, and traditional pubs / inns are also great places to stay.
