There is easily enough green space to allow visitors to head off the tourist trail and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Many parks are popular with families and local in Aix en Provence, so there are usually children's playgrounds, as well as boules areas and pretty gardens. During the summer, there is also often open-air entertainment on offer.

The lower part of this vast city park is laid out as a classical French garden. Steps take visitors to the upper part of the garden, which is laid out in a romantic style. During the summer months, there is often open-air entertainment in the Park Jourdane. Other recreational activities include an area for playing boules, as well as a children's playground.

Parc Saint Mitre

The park can be accessed by gates off Aix en Provence's Route de Berre. Locals and visitors alike enjoy strolling along the Parc Saint Mitre's tree-lined avenue as it circles a large meadow and takes in a waterfall, pond, stream and various play and rest areas. An arboretum, greenhouse and rose garden are also worth exploring, and a puppet theatre is sure to keep everyone amused.

Jardin du Pavillon de Vendôme

Situated within the Old Town of Aix is a formal garden that is perhaps the most popular place to take a stroll in Aix. The garden surrounds the 17th-century pavilion which was originally built for the Duke de Vendôme.

Parc Rambot

This Parc Rambot is a great place to walk and relax after the exertions of sightseeing in Aix en Provence. As well as lawns and flowerbeds, there are also children's play areas, including sand pits, swings, paddling pool and slides.

Parc de la Colline de Cucques

Perched on a hillside in the southern part of Aix en Provence, visitors to the Parc de la Colline de Cucques can enjoy strolling along paths lined by pine trees and rosemary. The park also has grassy areas and a children's play area, complete with a paddling pool.

Parc George Vilers

This vast open park known as the Parc George Vilers can be found in the heart of Aix's Jas de Bouffin area. Connected by a maze of pathways are a whole host of attractions, including a lake, an open-air theater, ten lawned areas, and numerous groves planed with a variety of tree species from Provence.
