Kuala Lumpur Weather and Climate Information

(Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory, Malaysia)

The weather experienced in Kuala Lumpur is greatly influenced by a number of surrounding factors, which combine to somewhat regular any climate extremes. Both the easterly Titiwangsa Mountains and the nearby Indonesian island of Sumatra provide Kuala Lumpur with much protection, meaning that temperatures rarely fluctuate more than a few degrees each month.

Throughout the year, the climate of Kuala Lumpur remains hot and temperatures regularly reach 30°C / 86°F by day, staying just above 20°C / 68°F by night and almost never falling any lower than this. The main weather factor that is most likely to affect those visiting this part of Malaysia is the likelihood of rain.

Seasonal Climate Variations / When to Go

Rainy weather is fairly commonplace during the monsoon season, between September and April, although the climate remains constantly warm. October and November tend to be the wettest months, each seeing precipitation levels of around 270 mm / 10.6 inches, compared with 180 mm / 6.3 inches in January, and just 127 mm / 5 inches in June, the driest month.

During periods of the heaviest rainfall, flooding can be a problem in many areas of Kuala Lumpur, particularly around the city centre and locations lying downstream. However, even the wettest of days can see clouds clear up and reveal some rays of sunshine.
