Re. A jewel of the Indian desert
Which part did you enter? Was it the government-run one or the privately-run one? That would explain a lot. I opted for the latter and the rooms were wonderfully restored.

A jewel of the Indian desert
The Haveli was at the very top of my list and luckily, due to arriving on an early morning flight, I was able to visit it within a few hours of arriving in Jaisalmer. This is one for those who wish to get a real feel for the local culture while architecture enthusiasts will also love it. I did feel that it was poorly maintained though.

Re. More appeal than the Haveli in my opinion
Actually there are a few hotels within the fort that you can stay in. I love the fort but it does get a bit crowded and can be quite dirty. The accommodation is a different story though and most of it is of a luxury standard!

More appeal than the Haveli in my opinion
I can understand why the Haveli is so appealing but the fort, in my opinion, takes the prize for Jaisalmer's best attraction. It's romantic while also intriguing - I just wish we could have stayed there as we saw others doing. It was hard to find out how to do this though.

Re. A delight for photographers of various levels
Hi Miguel, just in Jaisalmer alone I would like to recommend some people watching on Ganhoi Chowk Street and some landscape shots at Gadisar Lake. Surya Gate has great ancient ruins and Salim Singh-ki Haveli is another landmark.

A delight for photographers of various levels
Bada Bagh is main Jaisalmer landmark for my eyes and you must to go there for the best photos of this area. If anyone has more suggestion for great photo in this part of India, I'm all ears man!
