When it comes to art, the selection here is perhaps not as extensive as its big brother Denver, to the north, although Colorado Springs is nevertheless home to a fine selection of art galleries that will satisfy most art lover's tastes. There is a particular emphasis on Native American and Hispanic art work in many of the art galleries within Colorado Springs, while Manitou Springs is home to a vibrant arts community, with numerous galleries and workshops, often housed in beautiful Victorian buildings.

Downtown Colorado Springs is also home to some permanent sculptures and rotating exhibitions of street art. Especially noteworthy is the Fine Arts Center (FAC), which is to be found on the northern side of the city and is actually a part of the Colorado College campus, where it is known for both its Spanish Colonial and Native American pieces.

First opened in 1936 and comprising the Bemis School of Art, the Fine Arts Center is home to an extensive collection of Hispanic art, as well as permanent collections of paintings and sculptures by well-known artists. The building also houses a theater, library, tactile gallery for the visually impaired and a sculpture garden. Nearby, the Monument Valley Park may also be of interest if you have some time on your hands. A satellite venue known as the FAC Modern lies within the downtown district, on the Plaza of the Rockies.

Admission: charge, discounts available for seniors and students, children under six free and free to all on Saturdays

El Dorado Gallery

Flute Player Gallery

This gallery houses mostly Western jewelry, sculpture and pottery, with a generous offering of esoteric pieces, including a table made from multi-colored sand. The Flute Player Gallery is a good place to come for some reasonably priced Native American art works, colorful rugs and Navajo weavings.

Founded by Dutchman Artus Van Briggle in 1899, the Van Briggle Art Pottery has been around for over 100 years, making it one of the oldest active art galleries and potteries in the whole of the USA.
