Malacca Hotels and Accommodation

(Malacca / Melaka City, Malaysia)

Malacca has a good range of accommodation, much of which falls within the budget and midrange bracket. There is also an increasing number of top-enders in the city centre, including the likes of the luxury Bayview Hotel Malacca and the Hotel Equatorial Melaka. Even prices for these four-star places are good.

Those into culture and heritage will want to stay in the old town. Hotels can be found near to the main landmarks of Dutch Square, as well as across the water on Jonker Street. Malacca is compact and attractions, shops and eateries are within reach of most lodging.

Where to Stay

Taman Melaka Raya is the most popular area of Malacca to stay for those on a budget. It is down near the coast on reclaimed land and is one of standard terraces with cheap rooms. There is a large shopping centre here and Taman Melaka Raya is conveniently just a few minutes' walk to the centre of the action.

Chinatown lies right in the thick of it and is especially good for culture-vultures. While accommodation here is undeniably more expensive than in the Taman Melaka Raya area, the Chinatown district has bags more appeal and is particularly fun on a Friday and Saturday night, when Jonker Walk is lit up and bustling with animated people.

There are also some grand hotels to the south of this area, as well as to the north of the main historic centre. The Bayview Hotel Malacca is up this way, for instance, being just a five-minute walk from Dutch Square.
